From the previous thread, re: Angelina Jolie
Sparrow - Based on what you posted, Jolie has more specific plans than what the average American politician has ever thought of, re: Iraq and otherwise. That's great for her - and for the people she's helping. If even one life can be saved/improved, Jolie would've done her job.
Christy - I will, however, stand firm like Chuck on one thing. Loyalty is everything, and for me, that means Team Aniston. Jennifer Aniston does work with progressive causes behind the scenes, especially in regards to fighting homophobia (a major killer in the US and its puppet states) alongside Melissa Etheridge and Chastity Bono. So there.
Karen, that was a great video. (You're right, we do need a little fun.)
Ally, I don't believe we need to take a side in Jolie or Aniston's case.
Personally, I think we should just honor the fact that both of these women have tried to impact society in a positive way.
Regarding their personal lives, they probably should just remain personal. It's not like it's Britney claiming she's a religious-Republican pro-Bush who then turns around and uses drugs and almost kills her baby.
I faxed the New York Times editorial on Don Siegelman to 4 places:
Pelosi's Washington office
Pelosi's San Francisco office
Conyers' Washington office
Conyers' Detroit office
LEAVE BRITNEY ALOOOONE!
Ally, I find loyalty a desirable trait, fo sho. However, I do not feel the need to take sides in someone elses divorce.
I mean, really, gag me.
Sorry, but loyalty is something I feel towards my family, my friends and my ideals. Maybe a product, but certainly not actors.
I just got a second call from the DCCC asking me for money for the 2008 campaign. On this call I told them that I could not give money to the DCCC because Conyers and Pelosi are doing nothing in the way of impeachment. The young woman on the call gave me the talking point that "the Senate would never convict". I told her that the House SHOULD, AT LEAST, START IMPEACHMENT HEARINGS. AND START GETTING THESE CRIMES AND MISMANAGEMENT ON THE RECORD.
I told her that Rove should be testifying before Congress as should Libby and many others...
Ralph, I have a new trick that works 100%.
When they say the 'Senate wont convict', ask them HOW do they know that? Are they phychic?
I mean, how can you possibly know WHAT the senate will do, if the evidence is never presented?
Fair Warning : This tactic will elicit a sarcastic response when they realize they can't answer it without proving themselves idiotic.
Bankruptcy makes gift cards worthless
You know that Sharper Image gift card you got for Christmas? Right now, it's worthless. And other gift cards in your wallet could lose their value, too.
As more retailers file for bankruptcy or go out of business, more than $75 million in gift cards are at risk of becoming worthless pieces of plastic this year.
"If I knew this was going to happen, I would have used them right away," said Jon Tapper, a public relations executive from Boston who received two Sharper Image cards as business gifts just a few weeks ago. Their total face value is $50.
"I love gift cards, but now this makes me think twice."
The Sharper Image announced late last month that it was suspending the acceptance of gift cards, at least temporarily. It urged shoppers to check the company Web site later this month for an update. That is typical of businesses that reorganize under Chapter 11 bankruptcy, which treats gift cards as a loan to the company, not as cash.
For many shoppers, it's a harsh lesson about the risks of gift cards. Consumers spent an estimated $26.3 billion in gift cards at retailers alone last holiday season, compared with $24.8 billion in 2006 and $18.48 billion in 2005, according to the National Retail Federation.
C. Britt Beemer, chairman of America's Research Group, says "you will see a lot of frustration among customers. You basically stole (money) out of the customers' pocket. They will never forgive you."
The number of retail bankruptcies or liquidations this year is expected to reach the highest levels since the 1991 recession.
Brian Riley, senior analyst at The TowerGroup, estimates that shoppers could lose more than $75 million just from stores and restaurant closings in 2008.

I didn't give any gift cards. Guess it's better to just give cash.
PS. Corporations like Target, Sears, Walmart...do not consider a receipt to mean they have to give you a refund. If the gift-giver paid for it on credit, they will try to only giver YOU a store credit--since you obviously can not produce the original credit card.
Does Nixon have a library? Why? It really irks me that public money would be spent on a library under the name of GWB, the most criminal of American presidents ever.
woz
I live only 10 minutes from Nixon's library/birthplace/grave. Reagan has his about an hour away.
Remember, I live in Southern California, one of the most reactionary parts of the nation, contrary to what the Hollywood liberal elite may tell you.
Christy, Sparrow
Of course, Team Aniston vs. Team Jolie can get as unproductive and hostile as Hillary vs. Obama. And that's the last thing I want.
I am a Jennifer Aniston fan, always was, always will be, but that's a strictly personal preference.
Sparrow
Something similar to worthless gift cards would be frequent flier miles on airlines going out of business. And with the current economic downturn, airlines that survived the last recession may not survive this one.
I feel that I dodged a bullet when United went bankrupt, I was left holding over 100,000 miles with them, and they returned to normal operations 3 years later. My miles are still good, but it could've seriously been worse. And what about the future (i.e. rumors of United merging with Delta)?
The only silver lining in this is that frequent flier miles are one of the last means for an ailing airline to hold on to its loyal customers. But miles on an airline that's forever grounded = good for nothing.
@@@@@@@@@@@@
Pelosi and Conyers just seem to be going through the motions. They could have subpoenaed Karl Rove months ago; same with Libby. This "civil court lawsuit" is complete baloney; Mukasey and Cheney and Fred Fielding must be laughing.
A DEMOCRAT EX-GOVERNOR IS SITTING IN FEDERAL PRISON AND THE DEMS CAN'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT??? CAN'T EVEN BEGIN AN INVESTIGATION???
ABSOLUTELY
PATHETIC..
BTW: Fancy Nancy has all of her calls routed to an answering machine (which I just bet nobody listens to). I tried to call her Congressional office (not the Speaker's office) and I still got the Speaker's office and The Machine. I tell them that I do not want to talk to a machine etc.. Then I tell them that if they don't take down my message I will call the California office. The Dems don't care what people in the country think!!!! They are becoming Republicans!!!
absolutely
pathetic
Did you American Jews know yall have a 'liberal agenda' that is not 'driven by the Word of God'...?
So sayeth mccrazys pet lunatic, hagee.
AIPAC Event Helps Mainstream Allegations Of "Satanic Liberal Jewish Conspiracy"
http://www.talk2action.org/story/2007/3/10/165413/896/
I can't even read anymore of it, too twisted.
Holy crap, that is so mccrazy, it really is both hillarious and dangerous.
What a freaking nutjob!
FCC official wants probe of "60 Minutes" black-out
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A U.S. Federal Communications Commission official is seeking an inquiry into the blacking out of a politically charged segment of the CBS News magazine "60 Minutes" by a local television station in Alabama.
FCC Commissioner Michael Copps said he had asked the chairman of the FCC to open an inquiry into the February 24 incident at WHNT, a CBS affiliate in Huntsville, Alabama, in which civil rights footage from the 1960s was blacked out.
"The FCC now needs to find out if something analogous is going on here," Copps said at a luncheon with media watchdog groups. "Was this an attempt to suppress information on the public airwaves, or was it really just a technical problem?"
Copps is one of two Democratic appointees on the five-member FCC. The chairman of the agency, Kevin Martin, is a Republican. Conts.

Hmmm.
BTW Ralph.
I just saw that Nancy said she will file her lawsuits, and they 'could be filed AS EARLY AS this month!'.
I am so sure georgie is quaking in his boots, thinking nancy will eventually get around to it.
Ok, I will stop now before I totally go off into a screaming rant.
Screaming rants are bad for the ticker... However knowing all this stuff going on in our world is bad for your psychological-emotional state too.
At any rate, I can't figure out why anyone who thinks pulling impeachment off the table would be surprised that legislation is at a standstill, threats emanate from the W.H., and the W.H. is purposely obstructing justice.
So just where does this lawsuit lead us now that the courts are stacked against us too?
Nowhere. That is where it leads us, and that is the whole point.
And now lush limpball is urging his listeners to vote hillary.
If him mentioning Jolie makes her look bad, wtf does it say that he is now urging voters to vote for clinton?
I think his dislike for mccain has less to do with it than a desire to derail Obama.
Think about it, under a mccrazy or a mcclinton, limpball survives. Even thrives.
Under a president Obama, limpball would most likely go the way of the Do-Do.
He's not going away under an Obama. He'll simply keep lying like usual.
Since this is a 'fun' thread, I have to brag about something amazing.
In a 4 day period, my 9 year old was named A Honor Roll, Principles List, Student of the Month (for school) and Student of the day at karate, AND recieved her first brown belt.
It has been quite a week for her. Me thinks I have a little overachiver on my hands.
Awwwwwww Congrats Christy.
Keep on doing the 'mom' thing. Sounds like your kids are super kids! ;-)
That is my point Sparrow, I don't think he CAN lie about Obama.
Every time he tries, his racist and vicious idiotic side takes over. If Obama is the nominee, I think he will disgrace himself in front of all his listeners.
Every time he tries to smear Obama, it is going to blow up in his face, because unlike Hillary, Obama is not scared of lush limpball and he will most likely call him on it. Call him out over it.
And with drudge now in the crosshairs of one cranky prince, amd Melenie Morgan getting fired abruptly... I would say the wingnuts are not as free to lie as they once were.
Not even limpball.
I hope you're right, Christy.
Check it out, Obama made a 2 minute closing argument video spot for Texas airwaves.
It is one of the best political ads I've ever seen. Simple, honest and inspiring. Very clean and sober.

Ralph
"Pathetic Democrats" is nothing new to me. My state-level Democrats have been pathetic for ages.
It's gotten to a point where just about nobody who has anything to do with the automotive business (including dealers/distributors/manufacturers, and just about everyone in SoCal since everyone drives) will ever vote for a Democrat again. Hybrid drivers are probably the only exception.
I'm in a weird frame of mind today. I keep thinking about a conversation I had with a young co-worker last night.
Generally, at work, I try to avoid all political conversation, but this time a different co-worker started the ball rolling by commenting on Obama "closing it' (today) and winning. Anyways, the other person (I'll call her Bobbi)commented that 'her guy wasn't in the contest anymore so she really wasn't supporting anyone.'
At that point, knowing that this girl Bobbi is an atheist and seemingly liberal, I asked her who 'her guy was.' I expected to hear her say Edwards or Kucinich.
So imagine my surprise when she said her guy was Ron Paul!!!!
I couldn't help myself at that point. I said, "Ron Paul?!!!" (She nodded in affirmative)
"But Ron Paul is a rascist," I uttered disbelievingly. She sort of nodded as if she knew and it didn't bother her that much. How could it not bother her that much?!!!
And I asked her what else she knew about Ron Paul. I said, "Are you aware that Ron Paul would charge women who get abortions with murder and put them in prison for that?"
At that, she seemed shook up and said she didn't know that.
And of course, on a roll now, I continued..."Why would he put a WOMEN in prison while letting the man who impregnated her go free? Is that ok with you?!!!..." And I continued onto other subjects, "Are you planning on having social security when you get older? Do you think your investment in social security now will help you when you want to retire later?" (Yes, she likes social Security.) "Are you aware that Ron Paul considers Social Security welfare and by eliminating taxes he would be eliminating Social Security?"
And of course that led to the infrastucture that taxes support...like levy's and bridges. And I mentioned how our own infrastructure is falling apart. If we have no tax dollars to support bridge or levy repair, then that's just a lot more dead people....
It really seemed to shake her up. I listed FIVE things that her opinion was different from his.
1. Rascism
2. Abortion
3. Social Security
4. National-(single payer) universal healthcare
5. Taxes/infrastucture (Because even though she wanted less taxes once I pointed out how the taxes maintain our infrastructure she seemed to 'get it' on why we pay them.)
So the only thing she agreed with him on was that the war in Iraq should end.
WTH is it with Paul supporters that they can support him without KNOWING what he really wants to do?
She uttered, "Well, I really don't care about politics..." and later she uttered, "I just don't like Hillary." (She said she doesn't like McCain either.)
So here's this college age girl who was supporting FIVE things that went against what she believes in...all for a guy that she knows nothing about. Her boyfriend is from the middle of nowhere in our state and he's ex-military. So maybe that has something to do with it? (Peer pressure or just wanting to please a peer?)
Anyways, as I left last night, I reminded her that the contest was not a given for Hillary. And that maybe she needed to find out more about Hillary and Obama before she decided she just didn't like someone. I pulled up Obama's website and directed her to his "issue" page, and I pulled up Hillary's site and pointed her in the direction of Hillary's issues page. And I left.
I don't know if she actually read through them. But I'm just so lost and confounded on why Paul?!!! Why the Hillary hate already? Who is she listening to? Is she listening at all?
It just bugs me and upsets me. I KNOW that people have different ideas on how to handle important issues. BUT when you PICK SOMEONE and don't know that they are the antithesis of those beliefs...well, it just appalls me! I understand the issues are not clearcut and that opinions differ. BUT IF YOU KNOW YOUR STANDARDS then why not find somone who comes close?
This is what Bush has been about. In 2000 people didn't know him because the media just gave lies about him. In 2004 people didn't know Bush or Kerry, even while the media pimped the election as 'the most important election in the century.' And they didn't know Al Gore in 2000. And they knew even less about John Kerry in 2004.
So here's this liberal girl spouting support for Paul and knowing very little about him.
This whole thing just has me down.
Christy
Rush managed to make even the Republicans' Korean buddies look bad, in the wake of the Virginia Tech tragedy - at the same time Fox News was busy defending them. It was actually fun to see that split on the right wing over the Koreans.
Don't think that split will happen though, in the case of Barack Obama. Rush could make a fool out of himself, but some people, especially in construction, still listen to him verbatim. Let's be careful here.
And speaking of construction, among the hundreds of industry workers I've come across, only ONE guy actually appreciated his union/prevailing wage job. The rest don't know what they've been benefiting from, even seeing unions as impediments to their wellbeing. If a future Republican administration busted construction unions and scrapped Davis-Bacon prevailing wages, I wouldn't be the one shedding tears.
Sparrow
It's the media. The media made an evil neoliberal (and even neoliberalism itself) look cool, acceptable, and sensible.
Ohhh Ally, I absolutely expect an inparty fracture for repellicans if Obama is nominated.
A big bubbly terrifying split.
It will force the racists of their party, which is a surprisingly large number, into the open. As soon as it really gets out there, moderates will have to choose wether or not to be openly racist or leave the party.
It is a fracture that may just be mortal, because most real republicans I know don't want it tolerated anymore than we do. It will cause an open rebellion in their ranks.
And most of the really really really racist republicans, are in control of that party. It is almost certain Obamas nomination will split their party.
Sparrow, that conversation with Bobbi, is the direct result of apathy. Her apathy. Good job on opening up her eyes.
Who was she getting her info from? CNN. Had to be. Foe News ignored him and CNN constantly labled him as some kind of 'maverick', the 'anti war republican'.
All while avoiding talk about his nutjob beliefs. They did the same thing with georgie in the last two elections. He is 'the kind of guy you can drink a beer with', but not the deserting cowardly conniving little sniveling bastard he really is.
If you know he is the kind of guy you want to have a beer with, then you must KNOW HIM.
Same thing with Ron Paul. I am republican and so is he. I am a republican who does not like war, so is he, therefore we must be soulmates.
Hopefully her shock at what she had been supporting all along will compell her to keep a clue.
Oh, and I forgot to add....
Heavy voter turnout in Texas. The Dallas News reports that already, polling places are experiencing a “crush” of voters for today’s primary elections. The Texas Secretary of State office said that “early voters last week had already surpassed the total early-voting numbers for both the 1996 and 2000 elections,” and that interest is expected to continue today. GOP polling sites, however, “were not as busy.”
Think progress.
HAHA!
