McCain's 8-11 Houses vs Moving in, Moving Out, Foreclosed, For Sale Americans...
Why do people care about how many houses McCain owns or rents out?
Republicans would like to say it's a lot of hoopla over nothing--much ado about nothing. However, McCain's houses are important for a number of reasons.
The first clear reason is that he tried to hide the fact that he's a multi-millionaire who has a lot of homes! If he's trying to hide something so easily researched, it's pretty easy to see and understand that a McCain Presidency will look like Bush's policy with more hidden agendas and hidden laws. For McCain a new house--a White House-- shrouded in secrecy.
Of course, that may be much more clear to people who aren't working 80 hour days then going online to get real news instead of fake corporate news.
But the clearest reason this matters to people hits much closer to home. People are losing their jobs, their home, and their health, and yes...even their pets because they have been abused by the corporations and the people in power for the last eight years.
Of course, Monkey stated it perfectly a year or two ago, being the prescient kind of monkey he is--and restated it again this morning.
He said:
...there will be "pillaging" by this administration in it's final year, that oil prices would skyrocket and then somehow, as if by a magic wand, they will come down in the months before the election to show "results" of "action" taken by the encumbent party presidon't....I further soothsayethed that Iraq will somehow, as if by a magic wand, be neatly packaged and major announcements would take place, just before the election, that our troops would be coming home and victory is ours, to show "results" of "action" taken by the encumbent party presidon't to those who don't remember what they had for breakfast....
It seems to be unfolding that way to me, and if I've learned anything this 8 most miserable years, it's that these things don't happen by accident.
Even though gas prices came down 50 cents from a month ago, people have been unable to eat, barely able to drive to work or to drive around to apply for a job. They get it!!! They understand the extra $500 dollars per month may have cost them their home. They understand that Ramon Pride may temporarily help you keep your home, but it's got enough poisons in it to create an avalanche of health issues later. (Besides, they get that Ramon Pride is suppose to be a college staple, not a family staple!)
This is why McCain's houses matter.
McCain's campaign is already trying to spin it that Gore, Kerry, and Edwards all have big home(s), too. However, in a one to one contest of what policies Gore, or Kerry, or Edwards have fought for to help the poor, the middle-class (and not the 4 million middle-class), the elderly, and the Veterans or Military families, McCain would lose big time!
He's simply a rich, selfish man who is trying to enable his compatriots to get richer and buy more homes just like him. In fact, the image that is most 'deadly' for McCain is probably a new commercial or a Youtube viral video...
The foreclosure sign on the door and the family booted out, while McCain and his ilk buy the house at the auction.
Katrina, mortgage foreclosure, George Bush & John McCain redux.

Two rich, spoiled, selfish guys who don't give a shit about 98% of Americans.
The houses shine the light on McCain's projection and his deception. While they may not understand McCain's part of the Keating 5, and they may not understand McCain's cover-up of Abramhoff's crimes, I guarantee 11 houses to their 1/2 house...well...they get that!

Katrina Anniversary is coming up as you see. Me thinks I see a commercial coming up too.

You got that right! As I read your thread header, I visualized McCain's mansions in my mind - & then I saw the word Katrina - it's right up there with Grover Norquist saying government should be small enough to flush down a bathtub drain - juxtaposed with the Hurricane Katrina flood plain.
By the way, I should be credentialed for the Big Tent in Denver so hope to get some coverage here for what's going on there. I can't get in to see Obama but my brother has a ticket for that, so hope for some cell phone text messaging atleast!
I will do my best! I will be in Manitou Springs, Colorado this weekend and I know of only one coffee house with internet coverage but try to check in!
Let me know what you all are interested in - I can't get in the Convention Center but will have access to Wifi and streaming coverage and speakers sponsored by DIGG and Google on environment, media, health, women's issues, foreign policy etc.
slugbug,
You probably have my phone number if there's anything you need reported but can't get online to say.

I heard he is announcing his VP on the anniversary of Katrina
Excellent post sparrow, I borrowed it for rebellenation with a stark reminder of collages if anyone has forgotten what truly transpired that week while Georgie and his gang of thugs played their little games.
Thanks, Roo.

McCain's Household Staff Budget $273,000 by: johnk
Fri Aug 22, 2008 at 10:14:45 AM EDT
Not only does John McCain have so many houses that he can't remember them all, via Politico, "regular joe" John McCain's budget for household employees is $273,000 (McCain's tax returns).
The median household income in the United States is approximately $48,000. John "regular joe" McCain pays 5 times more for his butlers and maids than the average worker makes in a year, but hey he's not an elitist.
This one is excellent!
I like the inclusion of the "McCain thinks if you make less than 5 million dollars, you're middle class.
With help like this...
Robin Leach isn't your usual political pundit. But the former champagne-toasting host of the TV hit of the mid-'80s to mid-'90s, "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous," may be more qualified than most to opine on John McCain's now-infamous inability to remember how many homes he owns.
In an early morning phone call Friday from his fabulous crib in Las Vegas, Leach told The Times that he isn't really surprised at McCain's odd memory lapse given the complex lives that the super-rich lead.
"He probably was confused as to which homes are in his name, his wife's name, or corporate names," Leach explained in his familiar, deep British baritone. "In his attempt to be honest, he put his foot in his mouth."
In our News interview, he was asked what kind of car he drove. As with Politico’s question about home ownership, he didn’t know and had to ask a nearby aide. “A Cadillac CTS,” she told him. But then the senator was quick to point out that he had bought his daughter a Prius — the prefect (sic) halo symbol for his green pretensions.

Dear God.
Which candidate would you pick for "designated driver" ?
I don't think it'll make a big difference, but I'd be thrilled with Joe Biden.
Christy
I'm not surprised about the choice of a Toyota product, given that Toyota is probably the most important foreign corporate ally of the Republican Party.
I'm never buying a Prius, or any other overpriced Toyota slave-labor piece of junk.
Ally. I personally don't drive. But I own a Nissan that is dry rotting in my driveway.
Secret Service has been sent to Bidens house.
It will be Obama/Biden.
Just got back from setting up for our annual tournament.
One of the people there got a text message: "Obama has selected Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick for VP."
Barack has chosen Joe Biden to be his running mate.
Barack Obama and Joe Biden are the leaders who will bring the change our country needs. But they can't do it alone.

I just made a 10 year old cry. Freaking unbelievable.
She walked through, saw Obamas pic up on my comp, stopped, pointed to him and said 'I hope SOMETHING HAPPENS TO HIM... We need a WHITE PRESIDENT."
She is being raised by an idiot and a drunk, who's favorite line is 'I won't vote for a ni**er or a woman!'
I just informed this 10 year old what that means for her future if everyone thought that way. And then I tested just how far she was willing to go in hoping 'something happened' to him.
What a crappy way to start the day. I can't believe I just had to have that conersation. With a 10 year old.
But then again I saw a 6 year old get racist against another 6 year old the other day, so.. I don't know why I am surprised anymore.
CRAP!
Yeah, guys, I was up at 6:00 a.m. this morning, and the big news was that Obama picked Joe Biden. I am glad. The guy can hold his own, plus be an excellent "surrogate" who doesn't mince words, with a smile on his face.
My dad asked me yesterday morning who I thought it would be. I hadn't had time to even know Biden was on the "short list", but I said I thought Biden might be the one, he has all that experience, and he's Catholic, and appeals to blue collar workers.
Monkey (Curious George?),
How COULD YOU HAVE KNOWN what a pillaging we would take this past year.....what a smart monkey you are. You predicted it all, and it's all coming down exactly that way.
Via MSNBC news television August 23, 2008:
President Bush and Iraqi Prime Minister spoke Friday by secure video link about when U. S. Troops may leave Iraq.
Monkey, how did you know? Are you a psychic?
They have proven to me by this campaign timing even more that they were NOT lily white when it came to the war in Iraq.
I feel sorry for average Mr. and Mrs. America who are so busy working those 80 hour work weeks
that all they know is what they see on those horrendous smear emails. They barely have time to read those, and listen to fifteen minutes of "drive through" news on t.v.
If you want to send a message of welcome to Joe Biden that he will get, click on the link below.
Dear --
I have some important news that I want to make official.
I've chosen Joe Biden to be my running mate.
Joe and I will appear for the first time as running mates this afternoon in Springfield, Illinois -- the same place this campaign began more than 19 months ago.
I'm excited about hitting the campaign trail with Joe, but the two of us can't do this alone. We need your help to keep building this movement for change.
Please let Joe know that you're glad he's part of our team. Share your personal welcome note and we'll make sure he gets it:
http://my.barackobama.com/welcomejoe
Thanks for your support,
Barack
P.S. -- Make sure to turn on your TV at 2:00 p.m. Central Time to join us or watch online at http://www.BarackObama.com.
(I'm just sayin', I know we are of various political persuasion around here, and don't officially support any political party or candidate. I received this letter, and personally want to let you know that IF you happen to be an Obama supporter you can let Joe Biden know you are glad he is on the Democratic ticket, and he WILL get your email.)
Oh I have been hoping since the very beginning that it would be Joe Biden. He is such a good and powerful speaker. He has integrity and guts to tell it like it is. I originally hoped he'd be the presidential candidate but he had neither the pizazz, nor the ability to raise the money that Obama has done. But Biden can rally the troops AND he is not beholden to corporations as Clinton is and that would have been a big problem had she been the choice.
WOW!! What a team! Come on November! Surely ......... surely ........ surely ........ we will have good people at the helm in your country after a very long drought of intellect and compassion.
Excellent choice.
Christy
I think it's learned behavior (racism) - a form a bullying, with words added. Homophobia, sexism - all those phobias.
I heard a nine year old say "Why can't a white person win now? re the Olympics.
Children have a little bit of excuse - maybe they want someone who looks like themselves because they are insecure, but really - they tend to be more or less colorblind unless someoone corrupts that.
At least they can unlearn it or are plastic and resilient enough - it's harder with adults.
Today I'll be able to witness some interesting intolerance and/or paranoia (on both sides) as I'll be going to Colorado Springs. I'm sitting in a cabin at the foot of Pike's Peak. I think I'm at 7000 feet or so. It's exhilarating and it's so beautiful that if I lived here I'd be an artist for sure, and poor.
That's my brother - but he has a ticket to see Obama! (I don't) I'll be heading to Denver tomorrow. I got a rental car and I stopped off to check out Focus on the Family. It was an interesting place, if only I agreed with their ideological bent.
I am really horrified that the mountain foothills of Colorado, Oregon and Washington are ALL being settled by exurban sprawling settlements of those wanting to get away from the city. They're destroying animal habitats and so now there is a cougar plague. My brother in Oregon who is a bow hunter had to get a cougar license now in addition to an elk license and is philosophical about how he could be killed. At least he eats what he kills. Should I feel superior that I buy mine in a store? I think not. He even eats cougar meat.
I have found an internet connection so am keeping up a photo blog at http://www.silencedmajority.blogs.com but it's slow to double-post here because it's a laptop. So here are the recent offerings - click on my name.

When I get to Denver I'll try to post directly to here or send to Suz.

Thanks! I can get into the main page but can't post to the "body" of the entries. It may be that I have the old URL. What I can do is just post here (from Denver) or send content to you. & I can do SMP from this computer.
I'm on my brother's internet connection right now. He doesn't have a working computer but it's turns out I can get ethernet from the pkg he has for tv and phone.
He just opened a jar of prunes dated 1952 so they are as old as I am. He found a bunch of them in a dumpster and is salvaging the jars to put things in so mice don't get to them. It is really fun being here because it really is a cabin. The kids have bunks in what was their parents' closet. They don't really have or need many toys because their backyard is a huge craggy mountainside of red rock and they have caves and chickens and have to watch out for cougars, skunks etc. They are unspoiled but they also have no medical insurance. It's a damn shame.
WOW!! What a team! Come on November! Surely ......... surely ........ surely ........ we will have good people at the helm in your country after a very long drought of intellect and compassion.
Excellent choice.
I hope so, but he voted for the bankruptcy bill, and that will not be helping the millions of middlle class americans that are going under today.
"I think it's learned behavior (racism)"
It absolutely is a learned behavoir. But, as far as it being trickier to tamper with adults beliefs, that kids can 'unlearn it' I disagree.
It is far more difficult to pull a child out of that ego trip of feeling superior to another human being and if you can pull them away, only will power, sheer willpower on the part of the child can 'unlearn' such an overwhelming instinct and it will take a lifetime. The most vicious racists are those who were taught to be that way as children.
Children are capable of a cruelty that most adults would never dare show. Eugenics is the law of the jungle and kids feel their animal insticts far deeper than adults. The law of the jungle makes sense to them in their simplistic minds, it is easy to understand.
It does become instinctive. A child with sheer will and the desire to change will spend a lifetime trying to rid themselves of that instinct. But it is easier just to believe you are secretly superior.
I was so excited when I got up yesterday. Ready to try on my new Obama/Biden suit and see how it fit. And that brat messed up my whole day.
A freaking ten year old!
Sometimes I am just so sick of it. I can not help but believe Obama will confront it. He will have to. I am white and I have to deal with it all the time, I can only imagine the level of hatred he has to face on a daily basis.
It is way past time to take our country back from these vote rigging war mongering murdering racist lying pigs.
I am at my brother's house and he is a television junkie.
Now I can see that it is not my imagination that I despise television. So far we have had mostly CNN with a peek at Fox and also Hannah Montana.
I am sticking around to get some salmon and then heading out.
Christy
Remember that not all those racists are necessarily whites. Some are nonwhites who think of themselves as white equivalents, and "earned" the right to be racist, due to their economic success.
Great thunderstorm and tornadoes here - hope this doesn't happen on Thursday night even though some congregations are praying it will.
Kangaroo - I know that Biden supported that bill. He also supported the Iraq war - provided ALL diplomatic avenues would be explored. From there on - he voted no.
Rather than try to work out what the knowns and unknowns are of all the possibilities Obama considered, I can only judge by what I've seen/heard from Joe Biden - he is articulate and he says it straight. The media gives McCain credit for speaking straight - the moron doesn't even know how many choices he has for a bed at night.
Whenever I've heard Biden speak - I am in no doubt whatsoever where his heart lies. Now, he says it's with the middle class. I believe it's with the middle class on down. There will be time over the next 4 years for Obama and others to increase the scope of that heart to include the most disenfranchised of all, the poorest classes. But I do believe his heart is already open to those groups.
I trust Obama's advisors, too - they have run an incredible campaign.
I trust Obama's advisors, too - they have run an incredible campaign.
Hell yes, they beat the Clintons didn't they.
The media gives McCain credit for speaking straight - the moron doesn't even know how many choices he has for a bed at night.
Absolutely friking wanker.
I still just worry about a few of Obamas and Bidens votes of late.
Here's an oldie by goody from the pen of Oscar Hammerstein:
You've got to be taught
To hate and fear
You've got to be taught
From year to Year
It's got to be drummed
in your dear little ear
You've got to be carefully taught
You've got to be taught
To be Afraid
Of people whose eyes
are oddly made
And people whose skin
Is a different shade
You've got to be carefully taught
You've got to be taught
Before it's too late
Before you are 6 or 7 or 8
To hate all the people
your relatives hate
You've got to be carefully taught
Stay dry Slugbug!
Hey Matthew, Very interesting song. Never heard that one before.
Do you know every newborn baby only has two natural fears? The fear of falling and the fear of sudden loud noises.
Every other fear we develop is learned behavior.
Ally, I know other races besides white develop racist leanings, but it works the same in all of us. Once the logic 'clicks' in your head, and you feel 'superior', it is very hard to step away from it. It is more addictive than any drug you can name.
Children exposed to it have very little chance of resisting.
National gas prices drop 15 cents in 2 weeks
Regular costs $3.70 on average, still 95 cents higher than a year ago

Gee, I'm shocked.
I went with my brother to see some work he did in this woman's garden. She is the one who gave him the Obama ticket. I love this town! It is the antithesis of where I was yesterday (eastern Colorado Springs.) My nephew saw the peace sign and said "Obama!" (He is six.)
I slept great! Will head to Denver today - try to find the place in the suburbs I'm staying and work out the light rail logistics for how to get in and out of the center of the city.
I can't post on the front page because I don't know how to disenable cookies on this laptop and despite Suz' valiant efforts I don't know how to fix it, so anything she posts on the front is great and I'll just put the rest here unless she moves it.
So hope to be back soon - have to pick up the computer. I was lucky because though my brother doesn't have a working computer, he had a line in for the cable/phone that I was able to hook the laptop up to for DSL. I'm at the base of Pike's Peak and I really love it here.
The little kids are getting up and ready for school and I wish I didn't live so far from them. I know Colorado has to be pretty polarized. My brother was just telling me that some women (womyn) wanted to rename Garden of the Gods as "Garden of the Goddesses" and then some fundamentalist Christians from Colorado Springs wanted to rename it as "Garden of God." I suggested "Garden of Big Red Rocks That Look LIke They're Going to Fall Over On Your Car."
I had so hoped that the country had matured, maybe learned it's lessons from the last 8 years, especially when it comes to bein' HAD in an election cycle, but it that clearly hasn't happened...
This campaign season is like watching that movie "Groundhog Day"... it's just the same crap over and over, you could just substitute the names from 2000 and 2004 and keep the everything else the same, except instead of getting smarter with each passing day (as in the actual movie) and making the next one better, it's just, well, the same old easily predictable yet easily fallen for crap, day after day after day.
I really do have to tune it out, the chatter level of stupidity is melting my cerebellum.
I posted Dianne's pre-convention thread on the Home Page. Comments and such would be appreciated there.
Also, when Dianne sends me updates, I will create a page for the DNC on the open thread. This one has pretty low comments so far, so we'll just wait...
Monkey,
I am amazed by the speed in which new commercials are being made. I think that's new--sadly- and of course the media spews them forward giving them free airtime.
This is part of McCain's plans--to keep pushing those ads out quickly to get that free airtime. (imo)
The commercials are also better than in the past--for both sides. Youtube and entertainment are the basis of these new commercials.
sparrow... the delivery-to-market ad speed factor is a result of exactly what I was referencing, with this whole campaign being so friggin predictable that ads are literally pre-assembled ...
which plays to the biggest, weakest link in the election chain, which is just how easily molded the electorate is by forces other than the candidates and the issues by themselves...
instant karma's gonna get you
Don't forget monkey that they've had months to investigate and plan. The house thing was more spontaneous. But other things were months in planning.
Keep the faith Brother Monkey.
They caught the bastards again. Put your feet on the line and PUSH!
Why did CBS edit out McCain playing the POW card again?
http://www.americablog.com/
Anyone got good contact #s for CBS?
Christy, the song is from the musical, South Pacific. The sub-plot of the musical features a romance between an Asian woman an an American lieutenant taking place at the height of WWII. Of course, the Lieutenant dies on a heroic mission (of course), so they don't go off happily ever after (maybe that would been too much the 1950s).
